The Nagaoka MP-200 is a cartridge of musical contrasts. On one hand, it is a very refined cartridge that offers an organic, fluid presentation with an engaging midrange reproduction of vocals and instruments, and superbly smooth highs. On the other hand, it retains the detail, luster, dynamics and presence of music that are so often buried and attenuated by smooth sounding cartridges. It is this ability to engage music with its contrasts that makes the MP-200 so endearing, involving and extraordinary when compared to its price peers and beyond.

For many, this is the final cartridge to own given its affordability and ROME (return on musical enjoyment). For the few who seek beyond, the Nagaoka the MP-300 and MP-500 offer suitable solace.

The Nagaoka MP-200 has well-balanced fidelity in the full dynamic range which makes it idea for classical and jazz. Beautiful rich and mellow tones you can feel. “Beautiful, bright elder sister”

Over the MP150 you get more refinement and better tracking. Bass is tighter too. I honestly think the MP200 and the MP150 are the sweethearts of the line up. Highly recommend !! Thanks kindly!!

  2. Joe Bigliogo

Very good performers, consistent throughout the Nagaoka line. The MP200 strikes me as the best overall choice. It reaches a quailty level that’s very high transcending the models below. Above this point the higher modles offer only subtle improvements that are perhaps not worth it to most listeners. My only gripe with Nagaoka is their prices have sky rocketed over the last few years perhaps more so than any other cartridge brand. They are not the great values they once were at their latest prices and invite competition with an ever improving field. Nagaoka’s may already be knocked off their best value perch. Eg., the Jico NEO SAS styli with ruby/sapphire cantilever mounted on Shure bodies easily bests the much more expensive MP200 and the similarly priced MP150.
