The newest flagship product in iFi's micro series, the iFi AUDIO Micro iDSD Black Label is a portable DAC and headphone amplifier capable of playing MP3, PCM, DSD, DXD files. For digital I/O, the unit supplies a coaxial jack that supports coaxial and optical S/PDIF input, and coaxial S/PDIF output, with auto-switching between ins and outs. A USB input also adorns the device, which can charge the iDSD while supplying it with audio from a smartphone or tablet.
On the analog side, the iDSD Black Label provides a stereo 1/4" output for headphones, as well as stereo RCA line outputs for connection to consumer gear. A 3.5mm (1/8") stereo input is available for auxiliary sources as well.
Along with its Burr-Brown DAC, high-quality op-amps and Sanyo OSCON capacitors, the iDSD Black Label provides interesting sonic options, such as 3D+ to focus the stereo image of the sound, and XBass+ to both deepen and tighten your bass frequencies. Its built-in battery can last between six to 12 hours at a clip, while its side-USB port is capable of charging an iPhone completely two times over.
This device is capable of true native playback of all music formats from MP3 all the way up to DSD at 512 MHz, PCM at 768 kHz, and 2xDXD.
Burr-Brown DAC Chip
This unit features a Burr-Brown native DSD/PCM chipset, a piece of technology held in high esteem.
3D+ and XBass+ Sound
The latest iterations of iFi's 3D+ and XBass+ technology aim to improve the stereophonic soundstage and implement a deeper, tighter response in the low end.
High-Quality Op-Amps and Capacitors
The operational amplifiers in this unit use HCOFC copper lead-frames and 4N Gold bond-wire to ensure a high-quality sound. Likewise, the Sanyo OSCON capacitors found in the micro iDSD Black Label are the same used in revered gear such as the AMR CD-77 Reference Class CD Processor.
Headphone Power Modes
There are three power-output modes: Eco, Normal and Turbo. Using these modes in conjunction with the built-in iEMatch feature, you'll be able to finely match the micro iDSD Black Label with most headphones.
S/PDIF Digital and Optical Coaxial Connection
Digital Audio Players (DAPs) and home S/PDIF sources abound. The micro iDSD Black Label retains the S/PDIF in/out socket for optical/coaxial signals. So for those who wish to upgrade their DAP, simply use it as a transport and feed the micro iDSD BL.
From the HiFi Man HE-6 to the Sennheiser IE-800, the micro iDSD Black Label is able to play high-resolution audio for between 6 to 12 hours on a single charge. Even when not in use, the unit can charge an iPhone from 0% to 100% two times over through its side USB charging port.
